Take a moment to reflect on your current level of energy. Are you normally feeling sluggish? Do you feel like everyone you’re surrounded by is moving a much faster pace, while you’re constantly trying to catch up? When it comes to our energy levels, it’s important to note that the very cause of your lack of energy may be coming from your posture and your spine! Modifying your sleeping schedule and eating or drinking the right things might be able to help, but they won’t be able to combat the energy-sucking forces of a bad spine. One of the most common causes of fatigue in most of our patients is an imbalanced spine. This is usually due to misalignments that cause your body to expend energy in ways that it’s not supposed to. This problem is two-fold. For one, poor posture leads to a poor distribution of weight and forces in your body. Joints and muscles in your spine now have to handle stress that they’re not used to and therefore spend more energy than they typically would to keep the body upright and moving. Now imagine maintaining this poor posture and how much excess energy is spent over a long period of time.
Secondly, and probably the most important reason why, your nervous system is reliant on the health of your spine. Energy flows from your brain and through the nervous system to make sure every organ, muscle, joint and tissue in your body works the way they’re supposed to. When your body is properly aligned, the flow of all this energy through your body is properly balanced. When your body is out of balance because of a misalignment in your spine, this interferes with the nervous system’s ability to distribute energy to where it’s supposed to go. This is usually the cause of that constant, sluggish fatigue that stops us from performing, working and being the best we can. No matter how much you sleep, or how much coffee you drink, a poor posture and a misaligned spine will constantly feed on excess energy that your body needs for normal function.
